Oral surgery involves the extraction of teeth, including third molars (more commonly known as wisdom teeth). Extractions may become necessary when a tooth has become unrestorable due to tooth decay, periodontal disease, or dental trauma. In the case of wisdom teeth, extractions are necessary when they become impacted, meaning that they are stuck and unable to grow normally into the mouth. Tooth extractions are done in-office with a local anesthetic to eliminate pain.
